Solar panels are becoming more and more popular. The worldwide demand for Solar Energy is currently greater than the supply. Two billion people have no access to electricity. For most of them Solar Power would be their cheapest electricity source, but they cannot afford it. There is two types of alternative energy, passive solar energy and active solar energy. Even in cloudy conditions, we can collect up to 1300kW hours per square metre of solar panels per year. This is free energy waiting to be collected all year round. We have used solar energy throughout history without giving it much thought.Solar energy can be traced all the way back to the Ancient Greeks and Roman. In 1883, Charles Fritz turned the sun's rays into electricity. In a cloudy climate for example the U.K you can still receive sufficient sunshine to provide up to 70% of your anual domestic hot water needs from well designed solar panels. It hasn't been until recently and due to major governmental initiatives of Germany and Japan that the solar industry has started to take off. Solar power is very reliable and is very productive especially in sunny places like the B.V.I. |
